Our Virtual Race Series turned out to be a massive success with over 500 people running a total of 4,000 miles across the world. For our second series, we gave our runners the option to run a 5k, 10k, or a half marathon.
Participants had put in a tremendous amount of effort and determination during the 8-week training window. From first time race runners to avid runners hitting their personal goals, our virtual races are tailored to anyone and everyone.
Caleb Shifferaw, a participant of the 2nd Virtual Race ran his first half marathon, here’s what he had to say.
Grand Running Club: How much had you been running prior to training for the GRC virtual half marathon?
CS: I've always been very active but never ran more than a mile. The last time I ran more than 2 miles was football practice in 2012.
GRC: Did the 8 week training go to plan for you?
CS: It did, but I started dealing with shin splints which threw off my training.
GRC: That was your first ever half marathon, how was the experience and what did you feel like afterwards?
CS: The experience was truly amazing. When I relocated to Los Angeles I told myself I had to step outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself everyday. Running that half marathon showed me that literally anything is possible if you put your mind and body to it.
GRC: Any tips or advice you can give to someone thinking of running a half marathon?
CS: Just try to get better everyday. Stretch drink a lot of water and make sure you have a fire playlist!
